Recent, predominantly adult, studies have presented the interferon-γ inducible protein 10 (IP-10) as a promising diagnostic biomarker for tuberculosis infection. This study aim to further explore the performance of CXCL10 in pediatric TB infection.
A cross sectional study was conducted among children with Mtb infection and healthy controls. IP-10 concentration was determined using ELISA, in supernatants obtained from QFT-GIT vaccutainer tubes. Stimulation with TB specific antigen resulted in a significant increase in IP10 production in both active disease and LTBI groups but not in the control group No significant difference in IP-10 production after ANT stimulation was observed between active and latent infection. Comparison of ROC curve analyses for IP-10 and QFT-GIT for children with active TB showed high concordance between the IP-10 and QFT-GIT test in active TB. It is posited that the combination of IP-10 and IGRAs could contribute to the enhanced net predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of TB infection in high risk pediatric populations
